Welcome to the San Marcos Area Recovery Team!

The San Marcos Area Recovery Team (SMART) is a public safety dive team specializing in underwater investigation and recovery.   Based out of San Marcos, we serve communities all over the Central Texas area, and have traveled out of state and internationally.  Along with the South Hays Fire Department, we are a division of Hays County ESD #3.   Our members are Firefighters, Police Officers,  EMS personnel, and public safety professionals from various departments.

Who can request our services?

SMART, as a part of Hays County ESD#3, will assist, to the best of our ability, any Local, State, or Federal Government Agency that requests our services.  We are routinely called by Police and Sheriff Departments, Fire Departments, and Emergency Managers.

We have assisted numerous agencies around the State of Texas, and have conducted search and recovery operations in the Counties of Bexar, Caldwell, Comal, Guadelupe, Hays, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Live Oak, and more, as well as for State Agencies to include Texas Parks and Wildlife.

We generally are unable to assist private citizens with recovery of lost items, however we will occasionally make exceptions in the case of expensive and difficult to replace medical devices such as prosthetic limbs.

We will also assist Educational Institutions and other entities on a case by case basis with special projects, Public Relations events, Drowning prevention, or other community outreach programs.
